New duty-free shop opened at Akureyri Airport in Iceland

A new duty-free shop for international travelers was inaugurated at Akureyri Airport over the weekend. The first passengers to use this facility arrived on an evening flight from Alicante.

The opening of the duty-free shop is part of significant changes at Akureyri Airport, which also features a new 1,100-square-meter terminal building that commenced operations earlier this year. This new shop replaces a smaller duty-free outlet that Icelandair operated in the old terminal for several years. The duty-free store is managed by Akureyri Airport in collaboration with the duty-free operation at Keflavik Airport.

The new enhancements at Akureyri Airport aim to improve the travel experience for passengers and bolster international connectivity in northern Iceland. With the new facilities, travelers can now enjoy a broader range of shopping options before their flights, contributing to the airport’s modernization efforts.
