TAKS receives no specific allocation for substance abuse prevention plan in Faroe Islands
The Faroese Tax Administration (TAKS) has not received a specific allocation for its comprehensive plan aimed at preventing and reducing substance abuse in the Faroe Islands from 2022 to 2028. This information was disclosed by Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen in response to an inquiry from lawmaker Bárður á Lakjuni regarding the overall plan.
However, the government has increased funding for enhanced customs surveillance by 500,000 Danish kroner this year.
TAKS has been working on establishing a profiling system for substance abuse monitoring in 2022 and this year, but has encountered challenges. The system was estimated to cost three million kroner in 2022.
In 2022, TAKS purchased a new scanner for surveillance at the ferry terminal, as well as another scanner for Posta, the national postal service, last year.
Although the upgrade of TAKS’s surveillance facilities at the airport has not yet commenced, efforts will be made to include this in the long-term plans for Vágar Airport, according to the Prime Minister. Additionally, TAKS is considering the purchase of a bin scanner, which was previously estimated to cost over two million kroner in 2022, when the comprehensive plan was developed.
