The telecommunications group DNA has initiated restructuring negotiations as of Monday. The company has not yet issued a public statement regarding this news, and media has been unable to reach the management for comments.
In early September, Telia announced it would also commence negotiations affecting more than 3,100 positions in Finland, with potential job cuts totaling up to 500. Telia Finland CEO Heli Partanen stated that the company aims to streamline and simplify its organizational structure and operations.
As part of the negotiations, the entire office in Pietarsaari, a town of 19,000 residents, is set to be closed. The possibility of relocating employees to Oulu is currently under consideration. Regional union representative Tarja Koivisto remarked that the closure would be a significant loss for a small community.
Employees are scheduled to meet on Friday afternoon to discuss the situation. Koivisto emphasized that this change would be challenging for the region. National union representative Mika Oja is also present in Pietarsaari, where he mentioned that one option proposed for employees is a transfer to Oulu, located 240 kilometers away, which entails a three-hour drive.
“The planned closure of the Pietarsaari office includes possible relocations to Oulu. However, there are only a limited number of positions available there, putting 60 jobs at risk. This is a significant number if relocation to Oulu is not feasible,” Oja stated.
The situation is still developing.
