On Tuesday evening, the Southwestern Finland police received a report about a wandering donkey on Highway 8 in Laitila. The alert about the escaped donkey came in just before six o’clock. A listener who contacted the media described the donkey trotting calmly alongside the road.

“It was just peacefully jogging along the edge of the road,” the listener said.

Traffic in Laitila was slowed down due to roadworks, and eventually, vehicles came to a complete stop as the donkey ran past the line of cars.

“For a moment, I thought about catching it, and I even called out to it from my car window, but the donkey just kept going. I probably should have brought a lasso,” the listener joked.

When local police arrived, they found the donkey grazing near the Kovero industrial area. The police successfully returned the wayward donkey to its owner.

“Now the donkey is safely back on the right side of the fence,” said Commissioner Joonas Tikka from the police situational center.
