Several lawyers representing victims of the Vastaamo data breach have expressed their dissatisfaction with the compensation amounts suggested by the Finnish State Treasury. In late August, the Treasury estimated that victims could receive between €500 and €1,500 as compensation for suffering due to serious extortion or attempts thereof.
The attorneys, representing approximately 3,500 victims, argue that the proposed structured compensation is insufficient to address the suffering experienced by those affected by the breach. They claim that the psychological and emotional impact of the incident is far more significant than the proposed sums imply.
The State Treasury is expected to begin processing the first compensation claims in the near future, but this recent feedback from legal representatives indicates a potential for dispute over the compensation levels, emphasizing the need for a more substantial response to the victims’ suffering.
