On Friday, candles, flowers, and messages were brought to the location of a recent shooting on Hämeenkatu in Tampere. A woman born in the late 1980s lost her life in a shooting that occurred on Thursday night, with a man of similar age suspected of the crime. He is expected to be remanded in custody on Monday.

One of the visitors to the memorial, Laura Ouli, expressed sorrow for the incident but stated she does not fear for her safety, as the threat was not directed at outsiders. “What saddens me most is the racism directed at Roma people following this,” she said, hoping for peace to allow grieving.

The police have also arrested a man in connection with another shooting that took place in Koskipuisto park in Tampere the previous Friday. This 30-year-old is facing charges including illegal threats and firearm offenses. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, which stemmed from a dispute between two individuals in a crowded area.

The police are investigating the Hämeenkatu shooting as a homicide, alongside other firearm-related charges. Reports indicate both the victim and the suspect are of Roma descent and knew each other.

Many locals are expressing their concerns over safety after the recent incidents. Elviira Fält reported feeling unsafe after the shooting, stating, “I was shocked and scared to be alone at home.” Other citizens shared similar sentiments, emphasizing the need to address the root causes of violence, especially against women.

As the community mourns, there are calls for immediate intervention to tackle the underlying issues contributing to such tragedies.
