Woman injured in accident involving Onnibus bus and cyclist in downtown Jyväskylä
A young woman was injured in an accident involving an Onnibus bus and a cyclist in downtown Jyväskylä on Wednesday, according to local police. The extent of the cyclist’s injuries remains unknown. The collision occurred on Hannikaisenkatu near the bus terminal when the cyclist was crossing at a pedestrian crossing while the Onnibus was making a right turn. The cyclist became trapped under the bus’s wheel and was taken to the hospital.
Investigating officer, Crime Commissioner Annukka Liukkonen, stated that the police are looking into the matter as a case of endangering traffic safety and causing bodily harm. Matti Vainio, CEO of Koiviston Auto, confirmed that several passengers were on the bus at the time of the incident. Fortunately, they were able to exit the bus without delay, as the accident took place close to their destination.
The driver has been offered a company-defined debriefing service to help cope with the traumatic event. “From experience, we know that the shock may not manifest immediately,” Vainio noted.
