The city of Hamina has concluded its employee negotiations, which began in May and affected all city workers. As a result, Hamina will lay off employees equivalent to 11.5 full-time positions. There will be no new hires to replace those who retire or resign, and the number of temporary contracts will also be reduced. The goal is to achieve savings of approximately two million euros by 2025.

Previously, it was reported that potential layoffs, part-time work arrangements, or significant changes to job functions could impact up to 50 employees. The negotiations aimed to save around 5 to 7 million euros by the end of 2026.

Hamina has identified a total savings requirement of 10 million euros to be realized between 2024 and 2026. The city is exploring savings across various services, with possible targets including the discontinuation of after-school programs for students, the closure of the Ruissalo Library and the Summa Cultural Center, as well as the elimination of the Hamina supplement for families caring for children at home.

Updates on the situation will follow.
