In the shooting incident on Hämeenkatu in Tampere on Thursday night, the crucial question remains unanswered: did the woman survive? The police received an emergency call at 19:46 reporting that a man had shot a woman in Tampere’s city center. The suspect fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene.

Witnesses interviewed by Yle indicate that the victim is a woman in her 30s, of Romani descent, who was accompanied by a small child. According to media reports, the child was unharmed during the incident. The woman was found lying injured on the street before emergency services arrived, and witnesses reported that she was resuscitated.

Initial police information suggests that the individuals involved knew each other. While the suspect fled the scene, he was apprehended early Friday morning. Police confirmed that the suspect fired multiple shots, targeting only one person.

This shooting marks the second incident within a week in Tampere; the previous shooting occurred at Koskipuisto Park last Friday, where there was also a large crowd present. A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with that case, facing charges of making illegal threats, gun crimes, and causing danger. In that incident, a dispute escalated into a confrontation leading one party to discharge a firearm.

Both incidents took place at night amidst crowds, contributing to public unease. Authorities state that both acts were isolated and targeted individuals, not bystanders. The police have highlighted that organized or youth gang crime is not linked to the Koskipuisto shooting.

For witnesses seeking support, the Pirkanmaa welfare region has established a crisis hotline at 0500 625 990.
