Third wildfire erupts in Inari as officials battle blazes near Sevettijärvi and Kirakkajärvi

A third significant wildfire has erupted in Inari. According to rescue chief Markus Aarro, the affected area near Ahvenjärvi spans approximately ten hectares and is difficult to access.

The fire zone at Ahvenjärvi is located less than ten kilometers from another fire site at Sevettijärvi, where firefighters have been battling a blaze covering 18 hectares since Tuesday. By Wednesday afternoon, the situation at Sevettijärvi had stabilized, and local authorities reported that there was no immediate risk of further spread.

Efforts to extinguish the fire in the Kirakkajärvi area of Inari are also ongoing. This fire covers around eight hectares and presents challenges due to the rugged terrain. Firefighters were transported to the location via helicopter to assist in the operations.

The Lapland Rescue Services have mobilized personnel from Kemi, Rovaniemi, Sodankylä, and Enontekiö to support firefighting efforts at the Kirakkajärvi and Sevettijärvi fire sites.
