Finland’s municipal fiscal deficit is expected to grow significantly next year, according to Kuntarahoitus, a public financing institution. The organization forecasts that municipal expenditure will remain high this year, while tax revenue is projected to be lower than previously estimated. Esa Kallio, the CEO of Kuntarahoitus, stated that costs are rising particularly in personnel expenses and purchases of services.

Despite these challenges, signs of economic recovery are beginning to appear across the country. Kuntarahoitus predicts that a decline in interest rates will stimulate the economy, pushing growth to two percent in the coming year and maintaining this growth rate into 2026. However, this year is projected to see a slight contraction, with an estimated growth rate of -0.3 percent.
