Koskimäki assures safeguarding of youth crime investigation in Helsinki Police
Ilkka Koskimäki, who became the head of police in early September, has assured that the investigation into youth crime and preventative measures will be safeguarded in the Helsinki Police. A report by Helsingin Sanomat last month highlighted an organizational restructuring within the Helsinki Police, raising concerns about the potential termination of these crucial functions. While no final decisions have been made, Koskimäki expressed confidence that the reforms would enhance the capacity to combat youth crime.
As part of the government’s budget discussions this autumn, five million euros have been allocated to the police for addressing youth and gang-related crime. Koskimäki indicated that a portion of this funding will be used to hire additional personnel to strengthen these efforts.
