Skorradalshreppur reports highest population increase in Iceland

In recent population statistics released by the National Registry, Skorradalshreppur has experienced the highest percentage increase in residents among all municipalities in Iceland, with a rise of 19 residents, or over 32%, since December 1, 2023.

The second-largest increase was observed in Vesturbyggð, which saw a 21% growth, a change attributed to its merger with Tálknafjarðarhrepp. Out of the 62 municipalities in the country, eight reported a decrease in residents, while 54 either grew or maintained their population levels. The most significant decline occurred in Grindavík, where the registered population fell by 1,790, equating to nearly 50%.

Population increases were noted across all regions of the country, with the exception of the Suðurnes region, which experienced a decline of nearly 2%, amounting to a loss of 608 residents.
