Police seek to extend custody of murder suspect in Neskaupstaður, East Iceland

The police in East Iceland are seeking to extend the custody of a man suspected of murdering a couple in Neskaupstaður in late August. This confirmation comes from Hjalti Bergmar Axelsson, an assistant chief of police in the region. The current custody period for the man is set to expire tomorrow.

Authorities have already secured judicial approval for a psychiatric evaluation of the suspect. The couple was discovered dead at their home on August 22, and the suspect was apprehended later that day in Reykjavik while driving the victims’ vehicle.
