Earthquake strikes Bárðarbunga caldera in Iceland

A magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck the Bárðarbunga caldera shortly after 4:30 PM local time. Recent days have seen increased seismic activity in the area; however, there are currently no indications of volcanic unrest, as reported by the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
The last similar-sized quake occurred in mid-August, measuring 3.5. Earthquakes are common occurrences in the Bárðarbunga region, a well-known volcanic system in Iceland.
