Celebrities and royals have departed from Geiranger, but wedding excitement continues in the village. On Monday evening, the wedding cake of Märtha and Durek will be served outside Hotel Union, attracting local residents.
“There are many people gathered, eagerly waiting to taste the cake. More and more are showing up,” said hotel director Monja Mjelva.
Mjelva will personally serve pieces of the wedding cake to all who visit. The couple expressed gratitude towards the local community for their support during the wedding celebrations. In a message to the residents, they wrote: “We want to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone in Geiranger who contributed to our wedding. You’ve decorated the village, planted flowers, tidied gardens, and warmly offered us congratulations on our special day. As a small token of appreciation, we wish to share our wedding cake with you. We hope you enjoy it.”
Mjelva described the cake as a fancy carrot cake with a classic filling, prepared by the hotel’s pâtissiers. “It’s very special,” she added.
When asked if Märtha and Durek had tasted their own cake, Mjelva confirmed they had, but emphasized that additional portions were prepared for the guests. The hotel will also provide coffee and juice.
“We’re here to enjoy ourselves in Geiranger,” Mjelva concluded with a laugh, as she and her husband Sindre distributed cake slices to the attendees.
