Investigation launched following tragic jet ski incident in Hidlefjorden, Norway
An investigation is underway following a tragic incident involving a jet ski in Hidlefjorden, located south of Rennesøy. Emergency responders were alerted to the situation around 1 PM on Sunday after reports emerged of a damaged jet ski.
Efforts to locate the individuals began, involving police, the Southern Norway Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, and the Norwegian Lifeboat Association. Shortly before 2:30 PM, the bodies of two young men were recovered from the water.
The jet ski was discovered near Rossøya, whereas the deceased were found much further south, on the northeast side of Austre Åmøy, indicating a significant distance of nearly ten kilometers between the two locations.
Authorities have stated that the cause of the accident remains unclear. Police are currently focused on a tactical investigation and technical assessments. An autopsy has been ordered for the deceased to aid in understanding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Both victims have been identified, and their relatives have been informed.
