Police fire weapon during traffic incident in Hämeenlinna, Finland
On Saturday in Hämeenlinna, Finland, police used their firearm during a traffic incident on the motorway. Emergency services received multiple reports regarding a driver behaving erratically. Earlier that day, authorities confirmed that one individual was taken into custody.
Senior Constable Toni Janhunen confirmed to Yle that the police deployed a weapon during the incident, but he refrained from further commenting as the investigation has been handed over to the prosecutor’s office. Under Finnish law, any police use of firearms in official duties necessitates a preliminary investigation led by a prosecutor.
Later in the afternoon, police informed Yle that no one was injured during the event. The incident had previously been reported by Ilta-Sanomat.
