Guðlaugur expresses regret over ministerial vehicle speeding violation in Iceland

Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson, the Minister for the Environment in Iceland, has expressed regret over a recent incident where the ministerial vehicle was driven at a speed of 110 kilometers per hour. He shared a photo on his Instagram account showing the speedometer reading, acknowledging that such behavior is unacceptable.

“We always need to be careful,” he stated. “That was not done in this case, and it is very unfortunate.” The maximum speed limit where he was driving is reported to be 90 kilometers per hour, which could result in a fine of 50,000 krónur if adhered to.

Guðlaugur clarified that he was not driving but was a passenger in the vehicle. “There is always a need to ensure that we adhere to speed limits, and we know that,” he said when asked whether he thought posting the image was inappropriate. “Yes, yes. There is no doubt.”

He was attending a board meeting of the Independence Party, where he delivered a speech regarding the party’s current status and the challenges it faces. Guðlaugur emphasized the ongoing demand for the independent policy agenda and the principles the party represents.

“We need to demonstrate even more now that we stand for freedom and efficiency,” he concluded.
