Two teenagers sentenced for shootings in southern Stockholm
In mid-October of last year, two families with young children were shot in their homes in southern Stockholm. Within 25 hours, two women and one man were killed, while a mother and child were injured. The district court has now delivered its verdict. Two teenage boys have been sentenced: a 17-year-old received a 12-year prison term, while a 16-year-old instigator was sentenced to ten years. These sentences are notably rare in Swedish legal history, where few individuals under 18 receive long prison sentences. The court justified the harsh penalties by stating there were special reasons against subjecting them to closed youth care. Regardless of one’s stance on the issue, this ruling is expected to reignite the debate over stricter sentencing policies. The backdrop of shootings and crime linked to criminal networks and gangs underscores the severity of the situation.
