Robber sentenced to three and a half years in Kuopio as appeal looms

The case involving a series of supermarket robberies in Kuopio is expected to continue in the Court of Appeals. The prosecutor has expressed dissatisfaction with the recent ruling. An official appeal must be submitted by September 25.

On Monday, the North Savo District Court sentenced a 19-year-old man to three and a half years in prison for three counts of aggravated robbery, one count of robbery, and one count of attempted robbery. The man committed thefts at various stores across Kuopio during the past winter. He threatened employees with a knife and acquired small amounts of cash.

The man stated that his motivation for the crimes stemmed from financial difficulties caused by a gambling addiction.
