Efling refers wage dispute to national mediator amid concerns over staffing in Iceland

The negotiation committee of Efling, a trade union, has officially referred its wage dispute with the Association of Companies in Welfare Services to the national mediator. The union emphasizes the need to address understaffing and what they describe as “excessive workloads” in nursing homes during contract discussions. Efling also aims to build upon the agreement reached with the Confederation of Icelandic Employers in March.

In a statement, Efling highlighted that five negotiation meetings were held over the summer, yet progress has been stagnant. The union stresses that the growing workload and stress faced by employees are leading to an increased risk of burnout and illness.
