The Finnish forestry company UPM has announced the permanent closure of its biocomposite production plant in Lahti. This decision follows the completion of change negotiations that began in June, which will result in the cessation of the company’s biocomposite business by the end of this year. In addition to the facility in Lahti, UPM will also close its production plant in Bruchsal, Germany.

The negotiations in Finland involved 21 employees, with the majority based in Lahti. Overall, the changes will impact 59 jobs. The Lahti plant specialized in the production of biocomposite granules, which are sold as raw materials for biocomposite products to other manufacturers. According to UPM, the business has not become profitable.
