Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett prepare for wedding in Geiranger
In just over a week, Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett will marry in Geiranger, sparking community discussions about the preparations for the event. Tonight, local residents received information regarding arrangements for the wedding weekend.
Stranda’s Mayor, Einar Arve Nordang, assured the community that the village is equipped to handle the expected visitors. He noted that Geiranger has hosted larger crowds than anticipated for the wedding. The local police, mayor, and the director from the Geiranger Fjord World Heritage Site attended the community meeting to address concerns.
In addition to standard emergency services, the municipality has partnered with the Red Cross to provide support throughout the wedding weekend. Mayor Nordang expressed confidence in the community’s capability to manage the event, estimating that attendance would be in line with typical peak days, which can reach up to 15,000 visitors.
Approximately 60 residents attended the information session, raising questions about various issues, including mobile service and road closures. While the route for the wedding car procession is defined, the exact timing of road closures remains uncertain until closer to the event.
Local business owner Camilla Rønneberg, who operates a speedboat tour company, voiced optimism about the wedding, noting that it excites the community. She encouraged residents to embrace the festivities, stating that more information allows for better planning.
Katrin Blomvik Bakken, director of the Geiranger Fjord World Heritage Site, mentioned the positive feedback received from residents, indicating a mix of curiosity and excitement surrounding the upcoming wedding. She extended a warm welcome to all guests coming to Geiranger for the occasion.
