Finnish Tarja Jaakkola appointed NATO Deputy Secretary General

The Finnish Ministry of Defence has announced that Tarja Jaakkola has been appointed as NATO’s Deputy Secretary General. She will take up her position as Head of NATO’s Defence Investment Division on September 2. Jaakkola is the first Finnish national to serve as a Deputy Secretary General at NATO.

Prior to this appointment, she held various positions within the Ministry of Defence and served as a Division Head at the European Defence Agency (EDA). NATO currently has eight Deputy Secretaries General.
