Posti has announced plans to lay off up to 34 employees from its postal center in Tampere, down from an initial estimate of 120 during the start of consultation negotiations in May. Staff have implemented various strategies that reduced the number of layoffs, including retirement arrangements and pursuing training or new job opportunities within or outside the company.
The Tampere facility has been responsible for parcel sorting, terminal operations, as well as manual preparation work for the delivery of letters and newspapers. Moving forward, Posti will concentrate its automated mail processing facilities in Helsinki. The Tampere site will shift its focus to e-commerce, leading to a rebranding of the postal center to the Tampere Logistics Center.
Further updates on this situation will follow.
