Oulaskangas Hospital to implement major changes by April 2025 in Finland

The operations of Oulaskangas Hospital are set to undergo changes as early as next spring. According to Kirsti Ylitalo-Katajisto, the director of social and health services for the Pohde district, all planned modifications are expected to be implemented in April 2025. The Finnish government has allocated time for these changes to be finalized by early 2026.

Among the proposed changes is the planned discontinuation of round-the-clock specialized medical care at Oulaskangas Hospital. Additionally, the hospital will no longer perform joint replacement surgeries. The shortage of surgeons and the increased pressure for savings within the North Ostrobothnia welfare district have accelerated the timeline for these legislative changes proposed by the government.

However, Pohde hopes to retain the round-the-clock basic healthcare services at Oulaskangas. More updates on this matter are forthcoming.
