UPM announces temporary production adjustments at Kaukas and Kymin pulp mills in Finland

UPM, the Finnish forestry company, announced temporary production adjustments at its Kaukas and Kymin pulp mills in response to the current market situation, following discussions held in March.

According to Marko Sundqvist, the director of UPM’s pulp operations in Finland, the company is aligning production with market conditions and cost considerations, prioritizing profitability.

The shutdown of the Kaukas pulp mill, located in Lappeenranta, will commence on September 9, while the Kymin mill in Kouvola will cease operations on September 23. The company estimates that the downtime will last for three weeks. During these stoppages, some maintenance work will be conducted, though layoffs for staff may also occur.

Conversely, UPM’s pulp mills in Pietarsaari and Uruguay will continue to operate at full capacity, and deliveries to customers will proceed as usual during the shutdown period.
