Woman sentenced to fourteen months in prison for vandalism and offenses against police in Reykjanes, Iceland

A young woman was sentenced to fourteen months in prison by the Reykjanes District Court yesterday, with three months of the sentence being non-suspended. She was found guilty of offenses against public officials and vandalism involving police vehicles and the private cars of individual police officers. Most compensation claims were dismissed by the court due to the absence of legal documentation proving the damages claimed.

The woman committed several acts of vandalism over a span of several months this spring and summer, shattering windows and damaging five police cars as well as the vehicles of two officers. Additionally, she threatened a police officer with violence last November and kicked the thigh of another officer while being taken to her cell earlier this summer.

As a result of some of these offenses, she also violated the conditions of a prior four-month prison sentence that was imposed on her at the beginning of June.
