Police report no new incidents of harassment in Hafnarfjörður as school community resumes classes

The police in Hafnarfjörður have reported no new incidents involving a man who harassed children in the area earlier this spring. The school community is optimistic that the matter is resolved, with no additional complaints received since the initial reports. The Parent Association of Víðistaðaskóli, which had previously organized morning patrols for student safety, has decided not to continue this practice as classes resume next week.

During the spring, the police received four reports concerning a man who allegedly approached children near the school in May. In response, police increased their surveillance around the schools, and parents took turns monitoring the walking routes during mornings.

Classes will officially begin on Monday at the primary schools in Hafnarfjörður, with school openings scheduled for this Friday. Björn Páll Fálki Valsson, the chair of the Parent Association, indicated that there are currently no plans to maintain the morning patrols that were in place following the reports of harassment. Regular monitoring will instead occur on Friday evenings.

The situation reflects a broader trend of increasing safety measures in communities, especially as students return to school after summer breaks. Local law enforcement officials emphasize their commitment to ensuring a safe environment for children and monitoring any potential threats closely.
