Superyacht Octopus docks in Reykjavik harbor, marking another visit to Iceland

The superyacht Octopus is currently anchored in Reykjavik harbor. At approximately 126 meters in length, Octopus is one of the world’s largest luxury yachts, equipped with a submarine hangar, helicopter platforms, and more. It was originally commissioned in 2003 by the late billionaire Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, and has sailed around the globe for various research purposes.

After Allen’s passing, Swedish billionaire and adventurer Roger Samuelsson acquired Octopus for nearly $300 million. This isn’t Octopus’s first visit to Iceland; Allen himself came here multiple times with the yacht, notably employing it in the search for wrecks of naval ships sunk off the coast during World War II.

There is currently no information on the yacht’s purpose for its visit to Iceland, but according to Marinetraffic.com, Octopus departed from Tobermory, Scotland, on August 7 and arrived in Reykjavik early yesterday morning.
