Elden appointed as legal counsel for Haukeland in domestic violence inquiry in Norway

John Christian Elden confirmed in a message that he has been appointed as the legal counsel for Nora Haukeland, who is regarded as a victim in a case involving alleged domestic violence as defined under Section 282 of the Norwegian Penal Code. Elden noted that while Haukeland has not filed a complaint, she is cooperating with the police investigation.

Elden emphasized that the victim’s status does not imply that the person being investigated is formally charged. Haukeland’s case is classified as an inquiry, a designation used when police lack sufficient information to determine if a criminal case should be initiated. Elden mentioned that Haukeland is trying to move on from a difficult situation following significant pressure in recent times.

Julianne Snekkestad’s lawyer has also confirmed that her case, which involves allegations of violence in a close relationship, is similarly classified under Section 282 of the Penal Code, which can carry a sentence of up to six years imprisonment for serious offenses like threats, coercion, or violence against intimate partners.

Both women have publicly shared their experiences regarding alleged violence, and the police have contacted them for questioning. Snekkestad’s legal representative stated she wishes to explain her account in detail to prevent others from facing similar situations.

Marius Borg Høiby, who is currently charged with assault and property damage against a woman, has previously lived with both Haukeland and Snekkestad. He was apprehended by the police on August 4, following incidents at a residence in Oslo. The media has been advised to exercise caution in using names and images of those involved in criminal cases during early investigations, as per ethical guidelines. While Høiby is part of the Norwegian royal family, he currently holds no official role and is entitled to privacy amid legal proceedings.
