Suspect in custody following severe assault in Tampere, Finland
Police are continuing their investigation into a suspected case of severe assault in Pyynikki, Tampere. According to a police statement, the victim did not sustain serious injuries. A man born in the 1990s is suspected of assaulting another man who was out for a walk, striking him in the upper body with a stick on Pyynikki Road in Tampere. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 2, around half past ten in the evening. After the incident, the suspect fled the scene. He was later apprehended by the police on Satamakatu, where law enforcement had to use force during the arrest. It is unclear whether the suspect and the victim knew each other. The suspect is being investigated for severe assault and violent resistance to an officer. The investigation of the severe assault case is being handled by the Inner Finland Police Department, while the Central Criminal Police are in charge of the investigation on the violent resistance to an officer. The lead investigator in the case was not available for comment.
