Missing girl reported in Riihimäki prompting extensive search efforts
A 16-year-old girl reported missing in Riihimäki on Saturday is still unaccounted for. The Häme police department stated in a press release that the search is ongoing, as the girl is considered to be in acute danger to her life and health. Helicopters have been deployed in the search efforts.
Investigation leader, Detective Chief Inspector Ville Mattila, reported that helicopter searches took place last night in the areas of Hausjärvi, Riihimäki, and Janakkala. The Volunteer Rescue Service is also participating in the search.
Authorities continue to urge the public to report any observations, no matter how small, that could assist in locating the girl. Tips can be submitted to the emergency response center at the number 112.
The police released a photo of the girl on Monday, stating she may be moving within the Riihimäki, Hattula, and Hämeenlinna areas. She left her home on Tehtaanportinkatu around 5:30 PM on Saturday. Described as slim and standing 164 centimeters tall, she has short, light-colored hair and wears glasses. Her clothing may consist of black pants and a dark blue hoodie, and she is likely carrying a red backpack.
Authorities mention that the girl tends to avoid other people, and has an interest in horses and horse stables, which suggests she may seek out such locations.
