The Humppila municipal council unanimously decided on Monday that Antti Ahonen will no longer serve as the municipal manager of Humppila. Prior to Midsummer, the chairman of the council and the chairman of the municipal assembly discussed terminating Ahonen’s employment. As a result of these discussions, both Ahonen and the municipal council concluded that a mutual agreement to end his term would be in the best interest of the municipality.

Kari Ahola, the chair of the municipal council, did not disclose the reasons behind Ahonen’s departure. He stated, “When we began negotiations this June, we agreed to maintain a tight information line on both sides. The municipality respects Antti Ahonen, and in turn, he respects us by not bringing up negative issues against the municipality, nor do we against him.”

Ahola confirmed that the municipal manager enjoys the confidence of the decision-makers, and discussions with Ahonen are ongoing regarding how any reasons for the termination might be communicated.

Ahonen’s last day in office will be October 10. Before that date, he will take his accrued vacation. According to his contract, Humppila municipality will provide him with a transition compensation of six months’ salary, payable on his departure date. Ahola has not yet calculated the total amount, but Ahonen’s monthly salary is approximately €7,000.

Ahonen was appointed as the municipal manager at the end of 2022 and began his duties in April 2023. His appointment was challenged in the Hämeenlinna Administrative Court, leading him to serve initially in an acting capacity until the court dismissed the appeal in early summer. Ahonen is also the chairman of the Kanta-Häme regional council and a member of the Hämeenlinna city council and Kanta-Häme welfare area council. He resigned from the Hämeenlinna city council when his selection as Humppila municipal manager was confirmed.
