Two motorcyclists hospitalized following youth motorcycle meet in Imatra, Finland

Two motorcyclists injured in a youth motorcycle meet in Imatra on Saturday evening remain hospitalized, according to Timo Valle, chief investigator with the Southeast Finland Police. The two young riders sustained serious injuries when one rider, who was driving at excessive speed, collided with the other. Neither of the riders possessed a valid driver’s license for motorcycles, and their vehicles were found to be unregistered and unsuitable for road use.

Valle has not yet commented on specific details of the incident, such as the injured riders’ health status or how they acquired the motorcycles. “The police will next interview several witnesses, which will take time,” he stated.

The police are investigating the accident as a serious violation of traffic safety, aggravated bodily injury, and unauthorized operation of a vehicle. Valle noted that both injured individuals are suspected of endangering traffic safety, whereas earlier reports indicated that only one driver was under suspicion.

The health condition of the riders was initially reported by Etelä-Saimaa.
