Camping conditions in Iceland remain chilly as temperatures drop to freezing at Þingvellir National Park
Camping in Iceland faced chilly conditions last night, with two degrees Celsius of frost recorded at Þingvellir National Park. Snow fell in mountainous areas, prompting most campers at Laugafell to seek refuge in the warm shelter.
Some regions saw frost, including Lyngdalsheiði and Básar in Goðaland, where temperatures dropped to one degree. Cool weather is expected to continue throughout the week, but authorities reported no icy conditions on the roads for the next few days.
Campers utilized the shelter in Laugafell for warmth. Guðrún Guðjónsdóttir, the shelter manager, observed a snowy landscape out her window last night. By morning, the snow had begun to melt, leaving the area clear. “Several guests enjoyed the heated cabin. We’re fortunate to have hot running water and a nice hot tub, so everyone stayed warm last night,” she noted.
At the Útihlíð campsite in Árborg, it was cold but campers were well-prepared, according to Hjördís Björnsdóttir, the campsite manager. “It was quite cold last night, with a low of 1.2 degrees, but many people were comfortable in their camper vans,” she remarked. Guests reported that while it was chilly, the experience was still pleasant. After soaking in a hot tub in the morning, they departed feeling cheerful.
Overall, the campers adapted well to the conditions, enjoying their Icelandic adventure despite the cold.
