Earthquake measuring 3.5 strikes Bárðarbunga caldera in Iceland

A notable earthquake measuring 3.5 in magnitude struck the southeastern area of the Bárðarbunga caldera shortly before 3 AM today. This earthquake is the strongest recorded since June 30. Following the initial tremor, several smaller earthquakes were detected, though there are no signs of volcanic unrest in the region.

Earthquakes are common in the Bárðarbunga area, with 15 tremors exceeding a magnitude of 3 occurring since the beginning of the year. The most powerful earthquake recorded this year reached a magnitude of 5.4 on April 21.

Experts continue to monitor the situation closely, reassuring that while seismic activity is frequent in this region, it does not necessarily indicate imminent volcanic activity.
