A 25-year-old man who admitted breaking into the Stjörnugrís pig farm at Brimnes on Kjalarnes has posted a video he says shows poor conditions for the animals, mbl.is reported. It shows pigs with pressure sores and dead piglets.

Einar Logi Pétursson posted the video on Instagram and described conditions at the farm. “I don’t know what to do,” he says. “Around me are hundreds of pigs suffering in very, very cramped pens. They never get to go outside, they never get to see the sun, they never get to go on grass. All they know is suffering.”

The break-in drew considerable attention, and suspicions soon arose that it had been carried out in the name of animal welfare. Statements supporting animal welfare were found after the Brimnes break-in and a later break-in at Reykjabú in Mosfellsbær in June. Police investigated whether the same people were behind both incidents.

Damage was caused to the farm’s buildings and fixtures. Many pigs were released from their pens and taken outside. Ten piglets died, another had to be euthanised and other animals were injured.
