Åkesson’s U-turn leaves Kristersson relying on Centre Party

Jimmie Åkesson’s unexpected change of position has made it harder for the Centre Party to reject Ulf Kristersson as prime minister, SVT political commentator Elisabeth Marmorstein said in an analysis published by SVT.

The Sweden Democrats faced a choice: compete with the Moderates, Christian Democrats and Liberals in opposition to a red-green government, or become the only right-wing opposition party. Now Kristersson’s chances of remaining prime minister depend entirely on the Centre Party, Marmorstein said. The conclusions are her own.
