Attempts to sell the assets of Skaginn 3X as a whole have not been successful, leading to a decision to sell the company in pieces. The future of the business now appears uncertain in Akranes.

Helgi Jóhannesson, a lawyer overseeing the bankruptcy proceedings, stated that negotiations with property owners did not come to fruition, resulting in the shift towards a piecemeal sale. An application for bankruptcy proceedings was filed for Skaginn 3X in early July, and efforts over recent weeks aimed to sell the company intact to ensure its ongoing operations.

As a consequence of the bankruptcy, 128 employees lost their jobs. While some investors had shown interest, current attempts to facilitate a complete sale have stalled.

“Unfortunately, despite extensive efforts, we have been unable to sell the assets of the bankruptcy estate as a whole, and those attempts are now halted,” Helgi commented. He noted that the focus will now shift to selling the company’s assets individually, indicating that it is unlikely that the previous operations of Skaginn 3X will continue.

As the situation develops, the local community and former employees remain concerned about the implications of the company’s disintegration for future employment and regional economic stability.
