Gísli Sigurbergsson, managing director and one of the owners of Fjarðarkaup, says the sale of the family business has brought both happiness and sadness, mbl.is reported.

“People have congratulated me,” Gísli said in an interview on the Dagmál programme. “Of course, this is a happy occasion, but it is also sad.”

He said emotions surfaced as the sale looked likely to go through. When the agreement was signed, he felt a flutter in his stomach as he realised change was approaching.

After the signing, Gísli and his siblings met and joked that being together felt like a gathering after a funeral, as though they were mourning someone. He said he had not yet begun to miss the business, but expected that feeling to come. He is also looking forward to what comes next.

Samkaup has bought the store’s operations, while Kaldalón has acquired the property.
