Silfrastaðakirkja is returning home after restoration work in Sauðárkrókur, mbl.is reports. The church was placed on a flatbed truck for transport on Wednesday.
It was removed from its foundations in October 2021 and moved to Sauðárkrókur for renovation. Built in 1896, it stood in Blönduhlíð in Skagafjörður until it was moved.
The church had rested on a kind of stone pad on the ground. Its base had become badly rotten and the floor had sunk. The building is octagonal in shape, clad in smooth iron, with arched cast-iron windows on six sides.
