The Blákrossheimið treatment centre has offered to help assess people for ADHD in cooperation with psychiatric services, KVF reports, as 811 adults wait for an assessment.
The adult waiting list has reached 811 people, with a wait of three years, according to the chair of the ADHD Association, who gave the figures earlier this week. In child and adolescent psychiatry, 292 children and young people are waiting, with a two-year wait.
“We can begin assessments at Blákrossheimið, in cooperation with psychiatric services, and thereby shorten the waiting time,” said Leivur á Lakjuni, a psychologist at the centre. He said staff see people who need an assessment.
A 2025 review by Blákrossheimið found that 40 per cent of those who came for treatment for substance-use problems had been diagnosed with ADHD. Á Lakjuni said even more people may need an assessment than those already diagnosed.
