Georgios Ntentes has been acquitted of a charge of killing a man at his home in Kópavogur in November last year, mbl.is reports.

Reykjanes District Court acquitted Ntentes of the charge relating to the death of Edilsson Martins Zingara, a Portuguese man found dead at his home on Skjólbraut, in the Kársnes area of Kópavogur, on November 30, 2025.

According to the indictment, Ntentes attacked Zingara two days earlier, inflicting stab and cut wounds as well as injuries to his neck. The injuries caused Zingara to die from severe blood loss. Ntentes denied the charge.

Ntentes’ defence lawyer, Ómar Örn Bjarnþórsson, said the court was divided in its view of the case. He had not yet read the judgment and said he needed to do so to better understand the reasoning behind the verdict.

Investigators initially considered the possibility that Zingara had inflicted the injuries on himself. Ntentes, who knew Zingara and had spent the evening with him on the date covered by the indictment, was arrested days after the body was found. He was held in custody for a time, released and later remanded again.

The trial began in late September, and closing arguments concluded on October 2. Prosecutors had sought a 16-year prison sentence. Ntentes maintained his innocence in court.
