Residents voiced strong opposition to plans for 108 large holiday homes near Ebeltoft at a public meeting on Monday, DR reports. They raised concerns about traffic, the lack of sewer connections and the identity of the landowner.

About 150 people attended the meeting at Ebeltoft town hall, where Syddjurs Municipality is considering a new holiday-home development. Each of the 108 plots could be built on to a total of 230 square metres.

Nanna Aude, who lives with her family in Dråby, said she was worried about the effect of increased traffic on the village’s only road to Dråby Strand, particularly for children. She said the municipality had not assessed the development’s impact on traffic through Dråby.

“As a politician, you would have to be really ignorant or arrogant to go ahead with the plans as they stand,” Aude said. She added that she was reassured by the number of other residents who shared her concerns.

Camilla Rønde, deputy chair of the municipality’s Business and Planning Committee, acknowledged concerns about traffic and the absence of sewer connections. But she said the meeting had not revealed any “showstoppers” and that the issues could be addressed.

Residents also asked who owned the land. One attendee said she suspected Skanlux, a building company known for constructing large holiday homes, might be involved. Skanlux told DR it was not part of the Dråby Strand project. The company is working on plans for eight holiday homes at Øer, south of Ebeltoft, each no larger than 250 square metres.

Rønde said it was not the municipality’s responsibility to know who the developer was, arguing that the local plan should work regardless of who used it. Aude said knowing the developer would help residents understand what kind of homes might be built and prepare their consultation responses.

Syddjurs Municipality is accepting public consultation responses until 16 December.
