Hjørdis Fríða Gregersen spends much of her free time with animals at the sheep shed by the river, a refuge from a hectic daily routine, KVF reports.
After work, she is often at Seyðahúsið við ánna, where she looks after sheep, dogs, hens, ducks and geese. Her interest in animals goes back to childhood: her grandfather kept sheep and other farm animals, and she has always enjoyed being around them.
What began with three hens and a rooster has grown into what Gregersen calls a small animal community. “It started with just a few hens, but then it took off. I find it really exciting, and that’s why I enjoy it so much,” she said.
A ram named Eddie has a special place in her life. He is kept in the sheep shed to be used for breeding, and spending so much time together has made him very tame. Gregersen says the two are now good friends.
“To me, Eddie is just like a dog. You don’t eat your dog, so I’m not going to eat Eddie either,” she said. She added that it is much harder to eat animals that have been given names.
Caring for all the animals takes daily work, including preparing feed, cleaning their sheds and tending to them. But Gregersen says the animals are where she finds peace: “This is my refuge. It is balm for the soul.”
On the Facebook page Seyðahúsið við ánna, she regularly shares photos and videos from life with the animals. The small moments bring joy to followers and help Gregersen find calm and well-being in her own everyday life.
