A replacement ferry for Svínoy and Fugloy could be ready by July 2029 if it is put out to tender in February next year, KVF reported. The timeline was presented to the Finance Committee by Strandfaraskip landsins, the public ferry operator.

The tender process would seek prequalification and bids, with a construction contract due to be signed in July. Preparing the tender documents is expected to take about six weeks. The timeline for class approvals remains uncertain.

The committee was also told that maintaining the current Rita will cost 20 million kroner, with further maintenance due over the next three to five years.

Strandfaraskip landsins operates seven vessels, with an average age of 33.7 years.
