Passenger dies after car hits excavator in Kittilä

A passenger died after a car hit an excavator stopped beside a road in Kittilä on Monday morning, Yle reported.

Two people and a dog were in the car when it collided with the excavator on Ounasjoentie, about two kilometres north of Könkään, police said. The passenger died at the scene from their injuries.

Ounasjoentie was closed for about an hour while the crash was cleared. Police, medical personnel and rescue services attended.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and treating it as a suspected case of endangering traffic safety and causing death.
