Ilves’ journey in the UEFA Conference League came to an end Thursday night as they faced Djurgården IF in Stockholm. The match ended with a 3-1 victory for Djurgården, resulting in an aggregate score of 4-2, eliminating Ilves from the competition.

The game began with excitement as Djurgården scored the opening goal just 14 minutes in. However, Ilves quickly equalized with a goal from Roope Risk in the 30th minute, igniting a wave of cheers from their supporters gathered at Tammelan Stadium for a viewing event. The exhilarating atmosphere was captured in a video showcasing the fans rejoicing at the equalizer. Yet, Djurgården regained the lead just before halftime, scoring again with only two minutes remaining in the half.

The second half remained tense, with Djurgården extending their lead to 3-1 just seven minutes in, while Ilves struggled to close the gap. With ample Djurgården fans filling the Tele2 Arena, which has over 30,000 seats, the match was a challenging affair for the visitors from Tampere, who had only 8,000 seats available at their home ground. Around 350 fans attended the viewing event organized by Ilves, falling slightly short of the 400 maximum capacity.

Despite not advancing to the playoffs, Ilves captured significant financial returns from their UEFA matches, estimated at approximately €700,000–800,000. These games also provided players with greater visibility compared to the domestic league. Recently, there have even been reports of Djurgården negotiating a transfer deal for Ilves’ star striker, Santeri Haarala, further highlighting the impact of these European matches.
